What current testing shows
A recent stream describes Wizard as “very strong” and potentially one of the fastest PvE farmers. The same discussion mentions higher-level passives that can reduce cooldowns or reset skill flow, plus restoration to keep the character alive.
Build direction
- Prioritize the damage skill loop that actually clears your current stage quickly.
- Add restoration/survival before pure damage causes repeated deaths.
- Treat cooldown/reset effects as scaling pieces once you reach the relevant progression level.
- Use Wizard when your bottleneck is wave clear, not when you specifically need long-duration poison pressure.
Stat priority in practice
The same tester’s grinding advice is unusually blunt: for stage grinding you “just put attack on attack.” Wizard one-shots normal monsters, so most survival tuning can wait until a wall actually kills you. When he reads gear, he again prefers percentage attack lines over flat damage on weapons and gems, with HP% and defense% on armor so the farmer survives an unlucky pull — the same line-reading pattern he applies to every class.
He also points to a Wizard attack passive he calls “very strong” (he cites it boosting attack by 84% at his current level). That is one player’s tooltip reading at one point in Early Access, but it explains why raw attack scales the entire farming loop so hard for this class.
Skill usage tips
- Most Wizard skills stay at low level; the one damage skill that clears your current stage gets the investment.
- He maxes a survival/restoration option “so at least it doesn’t die” — a dead farmer loses more idle time than a slightly slower clear ever will (afk-farming).
- The real scaling arrives late. At higher levels (he references around level 80+) a passive gives each skill cast a 10% chance to reduce its cooldown, and a second passive gives casts a chance to reset outright. Together they can turn a cooldown-gated rotation into a near-continuous loop.
- Because of that, he treats Wizard as the class you plan around skill flow — and floats it as a potential best-in-slot PvE farmer once those passives exist.
Wizard vs Ranger
Wizard’s argument is clear speed. Ranger’s argument is sustained boss value. If normal monsters die instantly, poison loses value; if a boss lives long enough, sustained effects matter more.
Matchups: where Wizard shines and struggles
| Content | Wizard lean | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Wave clearing / grinding | Strongest reported pick | One-shots mob packs, “unlike Archer, who relies on attack skill and normal attack”; grinding stages is where the tester calls Wizard best |
| Ordinary boss kills | Strong early, per one tester | He reports two-shotting boss monsters with the damage skill and one-shotting on a critical — his experience, not a benchmark |
| Raid / World Boss ranking | Behind Ranger | Poison has time to tick on a long-lived target, so he sends raid and World Boss ranking duty to Ranger (world-boss-wings) |
| Pushing fresh stage walls | Behind Knight | The same tester recommends Knight for pushing first, because Wizard folds where Knight survives (stage-pushing) |
Common Wizard mistakes
- Using Wizard to break a brand-new stage wall. The current player loop is push with Knight, then farm with Wizard — Wizard’s job starts once the stage is winnable at all.
- Skipping restoration entirely to stack damage. Fast clears mean nothing if the character dies unattended while you are away.
- Building around the cooldown-reduction and reset passives before you have them; those are high-level pieces, not early ones.
- Expecting Wizard’s burst clear speed to translate into top raid DPS. The same player who praises Wizard’s farming still hands long-boss pressure to Ranger (class-comparison).
